Edificio Horizonte

The Project

In the midst of 60’s oil crisis the most ambitious and adventurous project in Malaga at the time, arose as a result of the collaboration with the renamed office R. Arevalo of Seville.
It cannot be denied that Horizonte building has rationalistic influences of the Modern Movement, however, it aims to distance itself from that and seeks a more dynamic architecture of great geometric strength.
Both inside and out, the rich architectural design and the application of the most advanced technologies leaded to a degree of building quality that is still notably preserved thirty years after its creation.
The most significant technical aspect in the implementation of these works, was the pioneering creation of four underground car park floors, the most part built below phreatic level and based on diaphragm walls, which along with the dome of the main hall and other structural elements, were designed in collaboration with the engineering company Esteyco, S.A. This design later received an award from the International Bureau for Concrete in Paris.
