Tender for the urban planning of Rio Medellin area in the city of Medellin, in Colombia
March 27, 2015
Proposal for the transformation of the fluvial channel area.
The tender was sponsored by the State Urban Development Corporation (EDU) for the Metropolitan Area of Medellín, in importance, the second capital of Colombia, with a population close to four million people, structured along the Medellín River, running along the Metro line that links the public transport in the city.
We participated in this tender in 2013 forming a professional partnership between the architectural companies A. Asenjo y Asociados, SL, and J. Moreno Peralta, SL and the engineering company Urbaconsult, SL and despite the quality of the work presented we didn’t get the award in this case.
The aim of the tender project is to study the banks of Medellin River to integrate this space in the city, since now there is a road where the private and public traffic circulate at the same time forming a physical barrier which divides the city into two parts and does not allow a unitary development thereof.
We believe we did a very interesting job providing solutions for the serious traffic problems that coexist in this space, creating an underground pass to give continuity to the spaces on both banks of this river, currently separated and without giving an answer.
