Proposal for a European-style university in the historic city
The Ministere de L’equipement, du Transport et de la Logistique Direction des Equipements Publics of Morocco has organised a tender for the Euro-Mediterranéenne Université de Fes as a strategic action to ensure a more balanced development of the university offer of this city, where there is a prestigious Koranic university, reference of the Muslim culture.
This complex, of marked Europeans lines, comprises a surface area of approximately 122,000 sqm, offering a new system for the teaching of humanities and social sciences, law, management, and technical studies for a university population of about 6,000 students. We have submitted our proposal for this tender in 2014 forming an association between our firm, J. Moreno Peralta’s practice, SL and the Architecture company Jahouad Khattabi, our Moroccan partner. The tender’s programme seemed too detailed for a tender, more likely to be based on a specific project, however, that didn’t prevent us to go for it, although we weren’t awarded with the same. The project’s proposal has been designed around open spaces, surrounded by administrative, academic and residential areas, forming a university complex that we consider very interesting, which required a major work of which we have indeed obtained satisfactory results.
